(Saturday class on hold until spring 2008.)
Q: What, exactly, is Yoga?
A: Yoga is a physical practice meant to bring you in touch with yourself and God. Often we can just use it both for a good workout and a time to feel calm and relaxed. We borrow Yoga from the Hindu faith, a gift they can give us to grow in awareness of ourselves and our connection to God. Yoga can be a way of praying with your body.
Q: I've never done Yoga before, can I come?
A: All ages and activity levels are encouraged to come. We have had elementary age children come and do quite well. The majority of the regulars are in their fifties, sixties, and seventies.
Q: I am not very flexible, is this workout for me?
A: Sure! Pastor Siri encourages you to do only what feels comfortable. The great thing about Yoga is that every pose has a beginner through super-advanced position.
Q: How does Yoga compliment my other exercises?
A: Yoga Strength is unique in that you work all the muscles in your body while also stretching other muscles. Because you use your muscles your heart rate also increases- many people are surprised that they are getting a cardio workout as well!
Q: What do I need to come?
A: A yoga mat gives just the cushion and sticky hold to do poses without slipping. Yoga mats can be purchased at Target, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and other large stores that have a small exercise section. They are usually around $20.00 and a great investment for many kinds of exercising and stretching.
