Pastor Kathie Nycklemoe serves as Pastor of Pastoral Care and Spiritual Formation. She served in public ministry for nine years in the Greater Milwaukee Synod, and now at Mt.Olive for nine years. She has studied at Luther College, Luther Seminary, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, as well as the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Baltimore, Maryland. Recently Pastor Kathie completed her training as a spiritual director at the Franciscan Spirituality Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Spiritual Companions:
Spiritual Companions walk with members in times of life's transitions such as loss of a loved one, birth of a child, and illness and changes in life situations. Spiritual Companions attend an initial training session, followed up by bi-monthly educational opportunities, currently held on Sundays after the late worship service. Pastor Kathie leads the group and coordinates the intentional connections with members in need.
Prayer Shawl Ministry:
Several members of the congregation prayerfully knit and crochet shawls that are given to people in need of a tactile reminder of God's presence. Knitters are invited to gather on a bi-monthly basis for conversation and support, currently on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Coordinators for this important ministry are Joan Blizzard and Pastor Kathie.
Prayer Chain:
Several dozen members, coordinated by Kathie Branes are connected by e-mail or phone to communicate prayer needs for anyone who requests prayerful support. Each member of the prayer chain will offer their own prayer to honor the request of those in need.
WELCA:
Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) is an organized group within the congregation, connected to the wider Church that meets for Bible study, service, and fun. Opportunities include involvement in one of several small groups/circles that meet monthly during the program year for Bible study, large group opportunities that gather for fun and fellowship, and service opportunities that benefit the congregation and the world. Nancy Britson and Pastor Kathie currently coordinate the WELCA at Mt.Olive.
Book Group:
The book group meets monthly during the program year on the second Monday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Books are chosen by the group in May for the upcoming year, with the list posted throughout the summer. Everyone is invited to attend this opportunity for fun conversation and treats.
Prayer Class:
Each year Pastor Kathie leads a small group through a seven-week series on prayer. Prayer forms that are experienced include prayer through scripture, prayer and silence, centering prayer, prayers of intercession, healing and thanksgiving, as well as several prayer disciplines that help one orient towards God throughout the day.
