December 30, 2007 - 1st Sunday after Christmas
Now after they (the wise men) had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a
dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain
there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him."
Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and
remained there until the death of Herod.
-- Matthew 2:13-15a
Merry Christmas! Department stores may be offering "after Christmas sales" but
in our lives of faith the Christmas season has only begun. On the 25th we celebrated
the birth of God in human form (which is enough!), and now for 12 days we celebrate
the many ways that God provides, protects, and defends God's people.
Where have you experienced God's provisions this Christmas season? Is there a place
where you can offer such gifts to others?
We pray: O Lord God, you know that we cannot place our trust in our own
powers. As you protected the infant Jesus, so defend us and all the needy from harm and
adversity, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
